Ooty & Kodaikanal Tour Package: Planning Both in One Trip
12 August 2026 · 5 min read
Ooty and Kodaikanal are often bundled into a single trip, but they're a genuine drive apart — roughly 5-6 hours by road with no direct connecting highway, which means most itineraries treat them as two separate legs through Coimbatore rather than a quick hop between hill stations.
Because of that drive, combining both in under 5 days usually means one feels rushed. A more comfortable split is 3 days in Ooty, a travel day, then 2-3 days in Kodaikanal — or picking one as the main destination and treating the other as a future trip rather than squeezing both into a single long weekend.
Ooty's highlights cluster fairly close together: the Botanical Garden, Doddabetta Peak, and the toy train all sit within a short drive of the town centre, which makes it the easier of the two to see thoroughly in 2-3 days without long transfer times eating into sightseeing.
Kodaikanal's draws — Coaker's Walk, Pillar Rocks, Guna Caves — are more spread out and benefit from a full day dedicated to the Pillar Rocks-Guna Caves-Silver Cascade Falls loop, rather than trying to see them alongside the lake and town centre on the same day.
If forced to pick one for a shorter trip, Ooty has the edge for families (the toy train and botanical garden are easier with kids), while Kodaikanal tends to suit travellers who want a quieter, less-touristed hill station with more walking trails and fewer crowds at each viewpoint.
